SEREMBAN: There is no reason to fear the green wave even for non-Malays, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
The Perikatan Nasional chairman said there is no such thing to be feared of, as Perikatan is working together with Chinese and Indians as well.
“The fear mongering initiated by certain individuals is not something we want to see in national politics,” he said after announcing the Perikatan candidates here on Thursday (July 16).
On the potential poster boy for the state polls, Ahmad Samsuri said it had not been discussed yet.
“Evidently, this will emerge during the campaign period,” he said.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said using the green wave sentiment to scare voters will only backfire.
"History has proven that the more they do this, the more they will be rejected by the Chinese.
“They have already lost support in Sabah and Johor and they will soon lose support in Negri Sembilan,” he said.
The green wave is a term used to describe the political gains made by Perikatan during the 15th general election in 2022 and six subsequent state elections in 2023.
At the Negri Sembilan polls, Barisan are contesting 25 out of the 36 seats at the state legislative assembly, while Perikatan is contesting the remaining 11.
Pakatan is contesting all seats while Perikatan is contesting 11.
Bersatu, meanwhile, is scheduled to announce their candidates on Friday (July 17).
Nomination day is set for Saturday (July 18) and polling on Aug 1.
