Man gets electrocuted while picking mangoes

KOTA KINABALU: A man has died from electrocution when trying to pluck mangoes from his tree at his house in Kampung Bambangan in Papar near here.

Ahajah Abdul Musa, 42, was said to have climbed the mango tree before using a metal rod to pluck the fruits on Sunday evening.

However, it is believed that the metal rod hit the nearby electric cables, causing him to get electrocuted.

Papar Fire and Rescue Station chief Rozlan Osman said they received an emergency call at around 3.01pm.

“When our personnel arrived at the scene, the victim who was still on the tree was already unconscious,” he said.

Rozlan said Sabah Electricity officials shut down the power supply while rescue efforts were underway, he said, adding that firemen brought the victim down from the tree.

Ahajah was pronounced dead at the scene by health officials, added Rozlan.
