Gerik bus crash: Injured UPSI students in stable condition

IPOH: The Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students injured in the bus crash in Gerik who are currently warded at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital are in a stable condition.

The hospital's director, Dr Saiful Azlan Sharif, said they are placed in regular wards.

He said both victims, Lili Suzana Mat Yaakob and Nor Erika Elysha Mohd Zaidi, initially seemed to have head injuries.

However, during their assessment, it was found that the head injuries were not as serious as initially feared, thanks to safety measures and thorough investigations.

"Lili Suzana’s injuries are more significant, primarily to the head, but not critical. She is conscious.

"As for Nor Erika, her injuries involve multiple fractures, with a serious injury to her arm," he told reporters after Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad visited the students on Tuesday (June 10).

Dr Saiful said a multidisciplinary team is treating them based on the nature of their injuries.

The treatment will be done in stages, prioritising urgent issues first and then addressing others according to a treatment plan.

"We will follow the advice of specialists involved in their care," he said.

When asked about transferring the patients back to a hospital in Terengganu, Dr Saiful said, "We are not certain of that yet and will discuss it later based on the patients' condition and needs."
