Man crushed to death while repairing excavator in Kundasang


KOTA KINABALU: A 41-year-old man was killed after he was crushed by an excavator while carrying out repair work on the machine in Kampung Montoki, Kundasang.

The Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 4.38pm on Wednesday (June 4), and a team from the Ranau station was deployed to the scene located 26km away.

The rescue team, led by operations commander PBK II Nickson Juni, arrived at the scene at 5.50pm.

They found the victim trapped underneath the excavator and worked to remove him.

Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

His body was later handed over to police for further action.

The operation was brought under control at 6.50pm and ended shortly after.

The team involved six firefighters, supported by police officers from the Kundasang station.
