JPJ to restore online vehicle ownership transfers

PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will restore its online vehicle ownership transfer service immediately following concerns over temporary disruptions caused by system improvement works.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the matter was discussed with JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli after reports emerged about the suspension of online ownership transfer transactions.

Loke said JPJ had informed the ministry that abuse and fraudulent activities involving the system resulted in liabilities that needed to be addressed, prompting urgent improvements to the online platform.

"However, I have advised JPJ to ensure that system improvement works do not disrupt the daily affairs of ordinary users or cause major congestion at JPJ offices," he said in a statement on Monday (May 25).

Loke said JPJ had agreed to immediately reinstate the service.

He added that any future suspension of the system for upgrading works would only be carried out during the coming long weekend to minimise disruptions.
