AN attempt at steaming glutinous rice dumplings with a pressure cooker led to an explosion, damaging the kitchen of the woman who wanted to eat the traditional treat, China Press reported.

The woman, who lives in China’s Zhejiang province, intended to reheat the dumpling, which is often eaten to mark the Dragon Boat Festival.

Identified only by her surname Li, she said she had previously seen her grandmother reheating dumplings using a pressure cooker.

When Li tried to do the same last Wednesday, the pressure cooker exploded and caused a hole in the ceiling.

Some of the kitchen tiles cracked as well.

Li shared some pictures on the Internet which showed glutinous rice smeared on the floor, walls and the ceiling fan.

She said that it was fortunate no one was hurt.

The Dragon Boat Festival took place last Saturday.
