KULAI: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s decision to join PKR will not impact the dynamics of the unity government, says Teo Nie Ching.
The DAP national vice-chairman said the component parties in the current government are mature and can overcome this hurdle.
"If Tengku Zafrul is interested in joining PKR, it is his decision. If the party wants input from other component parties in Pakatan, they will reach out to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke."
"I feel that we are all in mature political parties and can handle all issues well," Teo told reporters on Saturday (May 31).
She spoke after presenting incentives to 85 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia high achievers.
On Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced his decision to leave Umno to join PKR.
The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said he resigned as an Umno supreme council member, a Kota Raja division leader, and a party member.
Following that, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party has yet to receive an official application from Tengku Zafrul.
She said all applications are submitted online and follow a standard process. This includes presenting to the party’s central leadership council and considering various perspectives, such as the views of allies in the Unity government and grassroots.
When asked whether DAP has lobbied for Cabinet positions following the resignation of Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi, Teo said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has yet to address their resignations.
"As we know, the Prime Minister’s Department has issued a statement about Anwar approving their leave application. I believe the PM will handle the matter accordingly," the Deputy Communications Minister added.
Both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced their resignations from the Cabinet on Wednesday (May 28), several days after failing to get elected to senior posts in their party PKR.
