Malaysia ready to forge collaborations with Korea Expressway Corp, says Works Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia welcomes the potential for collaboration between local industry players and Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) to strengthen infrastructure performance, capacity building and knowledge exchange on smart highway management and digital construction technologies, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said such strategic collaborative initiatives could expedite an integrated and intelligent transport system in Malaysia that is more efficient, safer and sustainable.

"I was truly impressed by how KEC fully leverages technology not only to enhance expressway operations and road user safety but also to support environmental sustainability efforts.

"The use of integrated traffic management systems, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) for predictive maintenance, alongside the deployment of smart infrastructure, offers valuable insights and inspiration for Malaysia's own efforts to modernise its highway systems," he said.

He said this in a Facebook post Tuesday (May 27) in conjunction with his working visit to South Korea to attend the 2025 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum.

KEC is a South Korean national expressway agency that is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of over 5,000k of expressways across the country.

Nanta said the technical visit further strengthened Malaysia's commitment to transforming its road infrastructure in line with the direction and vision outlined in the Malaysian ITS Roadmap 2030, which is being developed by the Ministry of Works.

He also expressed his highest appreciation to the leadership and team at KEC, especially managing director Lim Chan Soo, for the warm hospitality and constructive discussions.

"Malaysia hopes this relationship will continue to be strengthened for the construction of safer, smarter, and more sustainable expressway networks for the future," he said. - Bernama
