PKR members urged to embrace change for growth

JOHOR BARU: PKR members have been urged to embrace changes within the party as part of its political growth, says Setiawangsa division chief Datuk Afdlin Shauki.

The actor and director said that before joining the party, he viewed things in black and white.

"However, when our party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim forgave Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, it gave me a paradigm shift on how we can change. A Greek philosophy states that the only constant in life is change, and we have to embrace it," he added.

Afdlin said this during the debate session at the PKR national congress at Persada International Convention Centre on Saturday (May 24).

He also mentioned another change for PKR after the 15th general election (GE15) when the party befriended its rivals, which was initially hard for him to accept for about three months.

"But these are the changes, and just like the party election result, we have to accept it as part of our growth in politics.

"To Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, I am at your service, and so is the Setiawangsa division, where we will help as we are PKR," he added.

Nik Nazmi, who is also the Setiawangsa MP, received 563 votes, while Afdlin, who joined PKR in 2021, got 631 votes in the Federal Territories division polls on April 19.

In 2022, Afdlin lost the contest for the same post to Nik Nazmi.
