Foreigners to pay more for fuel under rationalisation plan, says Anwar

JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that foreigners will need to pay more for fuel under the fuel rationalisation exercise.

He highlighted that approximately five million foreigners in Malaysia are benefiting from about RM3bil to RM4bil in fuel subsidies.

"There was a suggestion to increase the price of fuel and give subsidies to locals. We have rejected this move.

"We will target the 5% who are ultra-rich in Malaysia and also foreigners," Anwar said during his address at the PKR national congress.

He urged the public not to reject the fuel rationalisation exercise, noting that most Malaysians would not be affected.

Anwar also addressed concerns about fines for e-invoicing, acknowledging the need to plug financial leaks but promising improvements to prevent public hardship.

He pointed out that Malaysia has one of the highest subsidy rates.

Regarding party elections, he noted that the delegates had rejected the "chai method" (preferred candidates' line-up) ahead of the elections.
