Malaysia now recognised as a semiconductor hub, says PM Anwar

JOHOR BARU: Malaysia is now recognised as a semiconductor hub, following investments from three major giants that have acknowledged the country's potential, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He identified the three key companies as Infineon in Kedah, Nvidia in Johor, and Maistorage in Cyberjaya.

"These are not lower or back-end jobs being done here. This is not a trivial matter as it will help propel the country to greatness in this region," he said while opening a Madani Rakyat youth event on Friday (May 23).

Anwar highlighted that Maistorage's chips are comparable to those produced in the United States, China, and Taiwan.

He encouraged the youth to seize opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to enhance their skills.

He added that these companies would offer jobs with competitive salaries.

"I know that besides that, young people are also concerned about housing, education quality, and healthcare," he stressed, noting that the country would continue to prosper only when it remained stable.

Anwar warned that disunity would weaken the nation.

"For the first time, Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the inaugural Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-China summit here in two days' time," he added, emphasizing that this is possible because Malaysians demonstrate the ability and determination to develop the country.

He urged young people to stand united and reject any form of hatred based on skin colour, race, or religion, as well as corruption, especially among leaders seeking personal gain.

Anwar reiterated the government's support for young people, particularly through sports, arts, and cultural events, to promote understanding, togetherness, and unity.

"What is the meaning of development if we have traits like violence, greed, and hatred for each other?" he questioned.

He encouraged young people to set an example for the older generation, especially those lacking understanding of humanity, and to unite the country under the spirit of Malaysia Madani.
