KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia avenged their earlier defeat by Myanmar in the regu event by winning their final team regu match in the World Cup at the Titiwangsa Stadium tonight (May 21).
Malaysia thus entered the quarter-finals stage as the Group B winner following their 3-0 victory over Myanmar.
Malaysia's dreams of retaining the regu title at the World Cup had ended on Tuesday when they fell to a shock 0-2 defeat by Myanmar in the semi-final stage.
Mohd Afifuddin Mohd Razali, Aidil Aiman Azwawi and Mohd Zulkifli Abd Razak had no trouble defeating Han Win Htut, Shien Wunna Zaw and Zin Min Oo 15-7, 15-9.
Mohd Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Mohd Azlan Alias and Farhan Adam defeated Ye Htet, Thant Zin Tun and Aung Aung 15-11, 15-12 for the second point for Malaysia.
The country's third regu of Mohd Haziq Hairul Nizam, Amirul Zazwan Amir and Mohd Noraizat Mohd Nordin wrapped up victory by beating That Piang Soe, Chin Thant and Aung Myo Kyaw 15-13, 15-5.
Malaysia will face Group C runner-up Japan in the quarter-finals at 8pm tomorrow (May 22).
