Tipper lorries involved in the most road offences, vehicle seizures, JPJ says

SHAH ALAM: Tipper lorries have been the most-seized goods vehicles in Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement operations since 2022.

Senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said 602 tipper lorries were seized from 2022 until April this year.

"Overall, we seized 3,061 lorries during the same period.

"In 2022, we seized 102 tipper lorries, followed by 252 in 2023 and 189 last year.

"Between Jan and April this year, from 365 lorries seized, 59 of them were tipper lorries," he told reporters at the Elmina JPJ enforcement station on Thursday (May 22).

He said tipper lorries are also among the vehicles involved in the most road offences.

"Among the offences were overloading, expired road tax and failure to receive regular inspections

"We do not want the offences to endanger other road users," he added.

He said the department is taking the matter seriously and has instructed all enforcement division chiefs to step up operations on lorries in their respective states.

"We will focus on lorries with expired road tax (motor vehicle licence), no insurance and technical offences.

"We will step up operations and stern action will be taken to ensure the safety of all road users. It is our pledge following accidents caused by lorry drivers who violated traffic regulations," he said.
