Two fishermen injured, one missing after two-boat collision

PORT KLANG: Two fishermen were injured and one is missing after a local fishing vessel rammed into their fibreglass boat, 0.3 nautical miles north of Pulau Klang.

The accident occurred at 11pm on Saturday.

The two injured fishermen were rescued by another fibreglass boat that was in the area at the time.

The third fisherman remains missing at press time.

Selangor Maritime director Captain (Maritime) Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said an emergency notification was received from a fisherman who witnessed the incident.

“The man claimed that the vessel which hit the fishermen’s boat fled the scene soon after the collision.

“The Selangor maritime operations centre immediately deployed a patrol boat to the location to conduct an initial search for the missing victim, Zamri Mohd Harun, 56.

“He is believed to be lost at sea and was last seen wearing a bluish-red shirt and a blue pair of trousers,” Abdul Muhaimin said.

The rescued victims – Suzamri Mohd Sabri, 56, and Yazid Harun, 52 – were brought to the Selangor Maritime Department jetty and sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for treatment at 12.35am yesterday.

“A search and rescue operation, coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre Johor Baru, was activated at 12.10am, and the search is ongoing with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Marine Police,” he said.

Abdul Muhaimin added that yesterday’s search involved 20 personnel and three vessels, covering an area of 13 square nautical miles.

He reminded the maritime community and the public to always prioritise safety when carrying out activities at sea, especially at night or during unpredictable weather conditions.

Any complaints regarding maritime law violations or emergencies at sea can be reported immediately to the Selangor maritime operations centre at 03-3176 0627 or via the 999 emergency line.
