Johor Baru PE teacher charged with having porn on phone

JOHOR BARU: A physical education teacher has been charged at a Magistrate’s Court here with the possession of pornographic materials.

Gusti Ishak Fitri Shah, 30, was accused of keeping obscene materials in his mobile phone in a house in Taman Cahaya Masai at around 7pm on Jan 13 last year.

The offence was framed under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both upon conviction.

He initially pleaded guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate A. Shaarmini on Friday (May 16).

The magistrate then asked the accused if he really understood the charge and circumstances and whether he was sure about pleading guilty since he is a civil servant.

However, the accused only responded with a smile.

This prompted Shaarmini’s stern response: “Please do not smile at me. I have asked you whether you want to plead guilty or not guilty.

“If you plead not guilty, you will have to find a lawyer to defend yourself,” she said.

Gusti Ishak Fitri then pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the charge.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam offered bail at RM10,000 with one surety.

The court allowed bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed May 30 for next mention.
