Motorist dies after lorry hits stalled car on NSE near Batu Pahat


BATU PAHAT: A motorist was killed on the spot after his stalled car was hit by a lorry at KM104.1 southbound on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near here on Wednesday (May 14).

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the lorry was on its way from Tangkak towards Johor Baru when the incident occurred at 9am.

He said that after rounding a bend, the lorry hit the car, which was stationary.

“The driver of the car had stopped in the lane after the vehicle broke down," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 15).

The victim, 41-year-old Ahmad Zuhairi Zainuddin from Taman Sri Tebrau in Johor Baru, was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.

The 26-year-old lorry driver and 29-year-old assistant, both locals, sustained injuries on their arms and legs.

“They have been admitted to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar for treatments," ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat said.

In a separate case, a 49-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot after hitting a cow crossing the road at KM5 Jalan Lok Heng, Mawai, Kota Tinggi at 1am on Thursday.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the victim was riding towards Felda Lok Heng from Bandar Penawar when the accident occurred.

“The victim was unable to avoid the cow and hit the animal," he said.
