Johor police issue over 1,400 summonses in three-day traffic ops


JOHOR BARU: Some 1,448 summonses were issued to motorists for various traffic-related offences during Ops Utama from Monday (May 12) to Wednesday.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said most offenders were served the summonses for running traffic lights and speeding.

“Beating red traffic lights were the highest offences with 547 summonses issued, followed by speeding with 475,’’ he said in a statement on Thursday.

Kumar said 60 summonses were served to motorists for overtaking on double white lines, 55 for using mobile phones while driving and 48 for queue cutting.

“Two hundred and sixty-three summonses for other traffic-related offences were also issued during the operation,’’ he added.

Comm Kumar said there were 69 summonses for displaying registration plate numbers not according to specifications, using non-compliant accessories (65) and illegal modification of exhaust pipes (48).

He said other offences were for having invalid driving licences (31), expired driving licences (27), not wearing seatbelts (12) and having no insurance coverage (11).

“Study shows from January to April this year, among the main reasons for road accidents was driving exceeding the speed limit,’’ said Kumar.

He said Johor police will not compromise and will take stern action against those found to have violated traffic rules and regulations.
