ISKANDAR PUTERI: A Singaporean who made an illegal U-turn on the Second Link that led to an accident causing the death of a local motorcyclist Friday (May 9) evening.

At least two other motorcyclists were also injured in the incident which occurred at 7pm along KM0.6 of the Second Link.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said that the incident allegedly happened when the Singaporean driver of a red supercar decided to make an illegal U-turn to head back to Singapore, resulting in him hitting the centre lane’s guard rail.

“The impact caused the guard rail to be dislodged and cause an obstruction on the other side of the road, which a motorcyclist collided into,” he said, adding that the victim then fell from his machine.

The Malaysian rider died on the spot due to injuries to his head and left leg.

“The impact also flung his motorcycle’s storage box onto the opposite side of the road resulting in two other motorcyclists being involved.

“However, both escaped unhurt,” he said, adding that after the accident, a group of people then allegedly attacked and assaulted the driver with helmets.

ACP Kumarasan said that investigations were underway under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing a death due to dangerous driving.
