PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Azam Baki’s tenure as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner has been extended for one more year, announces Chief Secretary to the Government.
Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar (pic) said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to Azam’s reappointment as the country’s top graft buster.
He said Azam’s reappointment was based on his vast experience, commitment and achievements throughout his tenure leading the MACC.
The extension will take effect from May 13 to May 12 next year.
“As stated in subsection 5(1) and (2) of the MACC Act 2009, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has decreed the reappointment of Tan Sri Azam Baki as MACC chief commissioner,” he said.
This marks the third extension for Azam, who turns 62 on Monday. He was made MACC chief commissioner on March 9, 2020, replacing Latheefa Koya.
Prior to that, he served as MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) for four years from 2016.
He had also served the commission in various capacities, such as director of intelligence and director of investigation.
