PETALING JAYA: The Federal Government and the Sarawak state government have reached a consensus on all issues involving PETRONAS and Petros through negotiations, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
In a statement, the PMO said a meeting was held between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Tun Openg on Friday (May 9), along with top officials of the two petroleum companies.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to finalise issues based on previously agreed principles.
"This will facilitate negotiations between PETRONAS and Petros," the statement said.
This move is crucial to ensure the potential identified from PETRONAS-Petros collaboration can be fully explored and implemented effectively.
These include expediting the supply of energy commercially to Asean countries, the PMO added.
On May 4, the Prime Minister urged all parties to postpone any actions or statements regarding the issue of PETRONAS and Petros in the interest of mutual understanding.
It was reported that PETRONAS confirmed its subsidiary, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, had received notices on April 30 from the Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Ministry concerning gas processing and distribution.
The national oil firm told Bernama that PCSB is statutorily authorised under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 to undertake the company’s activities and comply with all applicable laws in doing so.
The two firms, as well as the federal and state government, have been engaged in negotiations over Petros’ role as Sarawak’s gas aggregator.
