The Star recognised for highest English language coverage of UPM

SERDANG: The Star has been recognised for providing the highest English language media coverage of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

The recognition highlights the publication’s support in consulting UPM experts on relevant issues, especially in agriculture, and promoting UPM’s achievements and initiatives to a wider audience.

Receiving the recognition on behalf of The Star was deputy executive editor Sim Leoi Leoi at a ceremony held on the UPM campus on Thursday (May 8) night.

"I’m honoured to receive this award from UPM on behalf of The Star.

"The Star believes in the transformative power of education, and we are happy to have contributed to the coverage of UPM," she said.

Berita Harian was recognised for the highest media coverage overall.

Other media outlets were also acknowledged for their contributions in various language categories.

Utusan Malaysia received recognition for the highest Bahasa Malaysia coverage, while The China Press was honoured for their coverage in Mandarin.

Other categories recognised during the event included highest radio coverage by BFM 89.9, highest online coverage by Bernama, highest television coverage by Astro Awani, and highest research coverage by Harian Metro.

Meanwhile, UPM faculty of engineering Prof Dr Law Teik Hua was awarded the UPM Media Visibility Award 2024.

UPM vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah said the award appreciates those who have contributed the most number of written expertise pieces shared in newspapers, television, and radio.

"I would like to thank the members of the media for your willingness to accept our views and opinions—not only to acknowledge our expertise, but more importantly, to enable it to be used by the relevant parties.

"I am confident that with the visibility provided, more doors will be opened for the experts and the faculty members at UPM," he said.
