Elderly couple killed in Kuala Kangsar crash

IPOH: An elderly couple was killed after a car lost control and crashed head-on with their motorcycle at KM64 of Jalan Ipoh-Taiping in Kuala Kangsar.

Kuala Kangsar OCPD Asst Comm Heisham Harun said the two victims, both 68, died on the spot due to serious injuries following the incident on Tuesday (May 6) at about 10.30am.

"The victims were on their way to Kuala Kangsar from Taiping prior to the accident.

"A car from the opposite direction lost control, entered the path of the motorcycle and crashed into them," he said in a statement.

"The wife also had some jewellery and money on her.

"Quick actions by the police prevented the victims' belongings from being taken away and have been handed over to their family members," he added.

ACP Heisham said the driver of the car has been arrested to facilitate investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act.

"Those with information regarding the accident are urged to come forward or contact investigating officer Insp Nadiah Radenan at 017-549 1475 or 05-776 2222," he said, adding that the driver and a passenger in the car were both uninjured.
