Ahmad Zahid congratulates Singapore PM Wong on election victory

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has extended his congratulations to Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on his People's Action Party’s (PAP) landslide victory in the republic's general election on Saturday (May 3).

In a Facebook post, he said the victory was a strong mandate that reflected the people's trust and confidence in Wong's leadership.

"I believe this victory is a signal that the people of Singapore have faith in his progressive policies and his vision for the city-state's future," he said on Sunday.

Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that under Wong's leadership, Malaysia-Singapore ties would continue to flourish and usher in a new chapter of mutually beneficial regional cooperation.

He said that Malaysia and Singapore are not only geographical neighbours but also strategic partners who share special historical, cultural and economic ties.

"May Singapore continue to prosper and flourish under his administration, and may the close Malaysia-Singapore relations continue to grow for the sake of peace, prosperity, and shared well-being," he said.

The PAP retained its more than two-thirds majority in Singapore's 2025 polls by winning 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats. - Bernama
