SHAH ALAM: The government has approved an additional RM6mil for the restoration of public infrastructure in the Putra Heights area, announced Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
Nga said the repair works will be executed through collaboration between the Subang Jaya City Council, the Local Government Department, and the National Landscape Department.
“This brings the total allocation for the rehabilitation of Putra Heights to RM46mil — RM40mil for housing reconstruction and RM6mil for public infrastructure,” he said at a press conference here on Wednesday (April 30).
Nga also confirmed that Sime Darby and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad have been given the green light to access the site and begin work starting Thursday (May 1).
"The repair and restoration process will start with residential units within 100 metres of ground zero. The estimated completion timeline is 24 months, but the government has urged developers involved to complete the repair works as soon as possible,” he added.
Nga said 291 residential units were affected by the Putra Heights fire. Of these, 81 homes sustained damages exceeding 40%, while 138 units had damage below 40%.
Following the Putra Heights incident, Nga said the government, through his ministry, has formed the National Disaster Relief Housing Fund to support victims who lost their homes.
The fund has collected RM40mil from the government and will be used for repair and restoration works in Putra Heights.
Nga explained that the repair process will be split into three categories, from structural to minor damages.
The first category is for homes with more than 40% damage requiring rebuilding, capped at RM300,000 per unit.
The second category is for affected homes with over 40% damage but does not require rebuilding, with a ceiling of RM150,000.
For units with less than 40% damage, repair works will have a ceiling cost of RM30,000.
