Former cook claims trial to abuse and neglect of 2yo son


JOHOR BARU: A 35-year-old former cook has pleaded not guilty to abusing and neglecting his two-year-old son.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the accused was charged in the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (April 30) under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

If found guilty, he faces a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years.

“We arrested the accused on April 23 after receiving a report alleging the abuse of his son.

“A urine test came back negative for drugs, and he was then placed under an eight-day remand,” he said in a statement.

The man was brought to court today, where he claimed trial before judge Thalha Bachok @ Embok Mok.

ACP Kumarasan said the court has set June 4 for next mention and set bail at RM8,000.

DPP Maisarah Hassan appeared for the prosecution.
