JOHOR BARU: A motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident at KM1.6 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) heading towards the city centre.
Johor Baru South deputy police chief Supt Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei said they received an alert at 6.25am on Monday (April 28).
“Investigations found that the incident occurred when the 23-year-old motorcyclist, riding from Kempas towards Johor Baru, lost control and fell onto the rightmost lane.
“A 33-year-old motorcyclist and the driver of a car stopped in the middle and right lanes to assist him.
"However, the car was rear-ended by another car," he said in a statement.
He said that while the two car drivers were trying to move their vehicles to let the second motorcyclist help the fallen man, a third car approached on the right lane and was unable to stop.
“This car, driven by a Singaporean man, hit the fallen motorcyclist as well as the other two cars and the second motorcycle.
“The rider who had fallen on the road was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The second motorcyclist sustained a broken leg and is being treated at Hospital Sultanah Aminah here,” he said.
The drivers of the three cars did not suffer any serious injuries, he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Supt Azrul Hisham reminded road users, especially motorcyclists, to always stay alert and exercise caution when riding to prevent accidents.
He also urged any witnesses to come forward and assist investigations by contacting the Johor Baru South traffic police station.
