Motorcyclist, 20, killed in three-vehicle crash in Kluang

KLUANG: A motorcyclist has died following a three-vehicle collision at KM19 of Jalan Benut-Simpang Renggam near here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident involving a motorcycle, a lorry and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) occurred at 11am on Saturday (April 27).

“Initial investigations found that the accident happened when a 20-year-old motorcyclist who was heading from Benut towards Simpang Renggam, collided with a lorry.

“The lorry, driven by a 29-year-old local man, had made a right turn into a junction. Due to the short distance, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the lorry, resulting in a collision.

“Both vehicles subsequently crashed into an SUV, which was being driven by a 33-year-old man and was stationary at the junction,” he said in a statement on Monday.

ACP Bahrin added that the motorcyclist suffered serious head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver sustained injuries to his head and face and is receiving treatment at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang. The SUV driver escaped unhurt.

He urged road users to always exercise caution and consideration when driving to prevent accidents.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a driver was killed in a road accident involving a car and a lorry along Jalan Senai-Seelong early Monday morning.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the crash occurred at around 6.10am.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened when a lorry, driven by a 42-year-old man, was making a turn into the Kempas junction.

“A car, driven by a 54-year-old man coming from the opposite direction, collided with the lorry,” he said.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver was unharmed.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
