Melaka allocates over RM600,000 annually for sports in state

MELAKA: The state government is allocating RM660,000 annually to encourage sports activities among the people through various sports programmes held across the state in conjunction with the Melaka Chief Minister’s Cup.

State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Datuk V.P. Shanmugam said the programmes are conducted at sports facilities located within the 28 state constituencies.

"The Melaka Chief Minister’s Cup involves youths from all backgrounds, beginning at the state-constituency level and culminating at the state level, covering sports such as football, futsal, sepak takraw, basketball, netball, and snooker,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Seri Negeri here today.

He was responding to a question from Siti Faizah Abdul Azis (BN-Sungai Rambai), who had asked about the state government’s efforts to empower youths in Sungai Rambai, particularly by providing more opportunities in sports and skill development.

Shanmugam noted that various programmes have been implemented by the Melaka Youth and Sports Department (JBS) to empower youths in Sungai Rambai. - Bernama
