Nine-year-old girl missing after falling into drain in Cheras


KUALA LUMPUR: A nine-year-old girl is feared drowned after she fell into a drain and was swept away in Bandar Mahkota Cheras here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a call about the incident at Sri Hijau Condominium at 7.08pm on Friday (May 1).

He said a team from the Kajang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene and arrived 14 minutes later.

"Preliminary information suggests that the child fell into the drain while attempting to retrieve a ball.

"The water current was swift at the time and it the victim was swept away," he said in a statement on Friday.

A search operation is currently underway. – Bernama
