MARRIAGES between people of different faiths are perfectly legal in Tamil Nadu and are recognised under the law, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The state government was forced to make the clarifications after a veteran actor Bayilvan Ranganathan alleged that the recent marriage of actors Amir and Pavani Reddy, who are Muslim and Hindu, respectively was not valid.
This is apparently based on his interpretation of the state’s marriage laws.
His comments started circulating on social media, leading to confusion among many.
The state government clarified that this is completely false, saying that inter-faith marriages are recognised and can be registered under the state’s marriage laws.
