TAPAH: An octogenarian couple took a bus from Kuala Lumpur back to Tapah to cast their votes in the Ayer Kuning by-election.

Chai Ko Chong, 85, and his wife Loi Mooi Ying, 82, walked hand-in-hand into SJKC Pheng Lok to fulfill their civic duty.

Chai, who resides in Taman Elok, mentioned that they returned two weeks ago.

"We've voted in the last eight general elections. We used to stay in Kampar and voted there three times," he told reporters after casting his ballot on Saturday (April 26).

The couple has three children, all residing in Kuala Lumpur.

The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent, Ishsam Shahruddin, in February.

Barisan Nasional's Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir is contesting the state seat against Perikatan Nasional's Abd Muhaimin Malek and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

Results are expected to be announced at about 9pm (April 26).
