Officer in custody for housing project kickbacks


KOTA KINABALU: A Community Development Unit officer was arrested for soliciting a RM40,000 kickback from those applying for contracts related to the Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya housing project from 2022 to 2025.

The suspect, who was in his 50s, was arrested when he arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sandakan office on Thursday (April 24) to provide his statement.

Sandakan Sessions Court judge Zaini Fishir ordered the suspect to be remanded for seven days following an application by MACC on Friday (Feb 25).

When contacted Sabah MACC director Datuk Karunanithy Subbiah confirmed the arrest and said that he was being investigated under Section 17(a) MACC Act 2009.
