Ayer Kuning polls: Don't let issues divide us, threaten our country's development, says Anwar

IPOH: The people cannot be complacent and let divisive issues threaten the development of the country, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the people should discuss and talk more about important matters that could impact the country's growth and development.

"We cannot be careless and be threatened by some babble like in Ayer Kuning.

"We should talk about the digital age, Artificial Intelligence and tariffs," he said in his speech during the state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Friday (April 25).

"We can also train our children, (and unearth) new talents.

"I'm not saying that we cannot discuss (issues), but let's look to our future and for our children's sake," he added.

Perikatan Nasional had brought up several issues during the Ayer Kuning by-election campaign, including one that involved pig farms and other local and political issues.

Anwar also said leaders must be stern and have wisdom.

"If we are weak, easily corrupted and get anxious, we will be defeated.

"The country also needs to have stable politics, to have strong policies and clear economic and development plans," he said.

"Our administrative machinery and implementers need to be super capable.

"Although I am old, but my view is optimistic because I have high hopes for the country," he said.

"I love the country and am confident that our people can enhance the dignity of our country," he added.

Also present during the event included Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, former ambassador to the United States Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, unity government elected representatives, state department heads and community leaders.
