KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters will resume recording the statement of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob tomorrow, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the MACC will be focusing on his asset declaration.
“We will continue recording his statement and focus on his asset declaration under Section 36 (1) of the MACC Act 2009,” he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for 586 participants of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme yesterday.
Azam had said the first phase of the investigation into the former prime minister had been completed, and the MACC was moving to the next stage.
Ismail Sabri’s statement was last recorded at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on March 24 over an investigation into corruption and money laundering relating to the expenditure and acquisition of funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure as prime minister from August 2021 to November 2022.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
On March 3, Azam revealed that Ismail Sabri was a suspect in the case after the MACC discovered about RM170mil in various currencies, along with 16kg of gold bars, during a raid.
Separately, Azam said the MACC is still waiting for the forensic report involving 10 video recordings linked to allegations of corruption involving several Sabah assemblymen, adding that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
“I expect the report will be finished soon as the forensic team is analysing all 10 video recordings.
“As I mentioned previously, eight state assemblymen have been called up to give their statements. We hope all parties will be patient and not speculate on the case,” he said.
On April 10, Azam said 10 videos involving the case had been submitted to the MACC for analysis.
