'I sang for free': Siti Nurhaliza clears air over Health Ministry Raya open house performance

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza took to social media to clear the air over her performance at the Health Ministry’s Raya open house on Wednesday (April 23).

The singer refuted claims that she was paid to perform at the event and said she sang for free to show her appreciation of the Health Ministry staff.

"I came as a guest, not a performing artiste. I did not ask for any payment.

"I feel it is important for me to explain this as I don't want untruths being spread about this," she said on Instagram on Wednesday.

The Health Ministry event had become the centre of criticism by the healthcare fraternity, Internet users and politicians alike after the do featured singers such as Siti and Datuk Jamal Abdillah despite the various issues that healthcare workers were facing.

This came about after Hartal Doktor Kontrak panned the Health Ministry’s top management for enjoying the open house, despite the working conditions of healthcare workers.

“MOH staff are happy, even though their on-call or OT allowance is very low, claims get rejected all the time, equipment cannot be purchased due to the lack of allocations, but at least MOH’s top management can have fun with famous artistes,” the pressure group said in a Facebook post.
