KOTA KINABALU: An array of patriotic programmes has been lined up throughout August to mark Merdeka Month in Sabah.
Organised by the Sabah Information Department, the activities aim to foster a stronger sense of patriotism across all levels of society, said its deputy director, Azman Sipan.
“Key highlights include the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2026 convoy, the 'One House, One Flag' campaign, the Jiwa @ Komuniti Madani programme, Bakti Madani, and Info on Wheels, along with interactive community and youth events,” Azman said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 4).
He noted that the department is partnering with government agencies, private sector entities, statutory bodies, local authorities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Through these partnerships, agencies will bring their services directly to the public, alongside events like Rahmah sales.
“We will also introduce the Langkah Jiwa Merdeka programme, where participants will walk through towns and districts waving the Jalur Gemilang to patriotic tunes,” Azman added.
For youths and students, the department has prepared tailored initiatives, including Kelab Malaysiaku, performances, nationalistic quizzes and interactive activities.
A total of 30 programmes are scheduled across the state throughout the month. In addition to festive activities, the department will collaborate with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to conduct awareness sessions on internet safety, anti-bullying, and digital literacy.
