SHAH ALAM: Anti-narcotics enforcement operations at the KL International Airport has led to the arrest of 13 suspected drug mules.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, at a press conference Tuesday (Aug 4) at the contingent headquarters here, said that the arrests were made between July 27 and 31 under Ops Khas KLIA.
The operation detected nine separate incidents, leading to the arrest of five Malaysians and seven foreigners aged between 18 and 53 years old.
“A total of 260.08kg of marijuana buds and 1.01kg of cocaine were seized with the estimated value placed at RM21.26mil," he said.
Comm Hussein added that it is believed that the drugs had came from land and sea routes here and was supposed to be trafficked to European countries.
Investigations also showed that the foreigners had entered the country for brief periods of time between three days and week. They would also stay at areas near the airport before receiving their orders.
“Most were going to fly to the United Kingdom based on tickets. So they would start there then connect to other countries in Europe with key countries being the UK and France,” he said.
He also said that the syndicate would constantly try flying out from Malaysia despite the numerous arrest made.
“There may be some kelonggaran (laxness) that were used by the syndicate to traffic the drugs out of the airport even though many seizures had been made in the past. However attempts are still being detected and I believe there are also those that had went through that we do not know off,” he said.
