Skills fund recovers RM1.33bil of outstanding arrears

KUALA LUMPUR: Under its repayment collection initiative, the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) has collected 40% or RM1.33bil of its total outstanding amount, says the Human Resources Ministry.

Its secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the amount collected is from the overall total of RM3.29bil in arrears, from 2001 until March 31, this year.

“As for the current year (2025), the amount collected up to March 31 is RM62.38mil or 81% of the expected collection for 2025, which stands at RM76.97mil,” he said during the opening speech on behalf of Human Resources Minister Steven Sim at the launch of the 25th anniversary of PTPK at a hotel here yesterday.

At the event, Azman announced the launch of PTPK’s Mega Lucky Draw 2025 programme, to encourage more borrowers to repay their loans, with attractive prizes totalling RM212,000.

“In 2025, PTPK has set a target of collecting RM450mil in arrears to boost the skills training fund while supporting the development of future talent for the nation’s progress,” he said.

“The lucky draw is open to all eligible PTPK borrowers with minimum repayment amount of RM1,500 per transaction,” he said.

The repayments must be made through PTPK’s official channels and participation period is from Jan 1 to Dec 31 this year.

Azman said PTPK has launched the PTPK TVET Trainee (Pelatih TVET PTPK) mobile application.

It is an initiative that enables trainees to access financing information, application status and repayment notifications conveniently at their fingertips.

“Since the year 2000, PTPK has benefited more than 400,000 skills trainees nationwide, supporting human capital development in line with the country’s aspiration towards a high-skilled economy,” Azman said.

Since PTPK’s establishment until March 31, Azman said a total of RM5.3bil in skills training loans have been approved involving 411,139 trainees.

“Since its corporatisation in 2006 up to March 31, a total of RM1bil in skills training financing or grants has been approved which involved 117,403 trainees.

“This brings the overall number of trainees that received funding to 528,542, with a total amount of RM6.3bil.

“This highlights the important role played by PTPK as the main contributor of TVET in the country,” he said.
