Body of missing fisherman found near Johor Port

JOHOR BARU: The body of a 49-year-old man who fell overboard while fishing for prawns near Johor Port has been found.

Pasir Gudang fire station senior commander Sarhan Akmal Mohamad said the body was discovered about 100m from where the man was reported missing.

“The search and rescue team spotted the body floating not far from the location where he was last seen at around 1.45pm on Tuesday (April 22),” he said when contacted.

The body has since been handed over to the police for further action.

Sarhan Akmal said the victim was fishing for prawns with his elder brother at about 11.45am on Monday (April 21) when the incident occurred.

“The victim returned to his brother, who was on another boat, and told him that he wanted to switch spots, as there were no prawns in his current area.

“However, shortly after their boats passed one another, his brother noticed that he was missing and immediately alerted us,” he said.

The body has been sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail for further examination.
