KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is gearing up for the next general election by appointing its top leaders to coordinate preparations and prime up its machinery to contest all Parliament seats in the state.
GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said they appointed party presidents under six zones to oversee the 25 Parliament seats in Sabah and Federal Territory of Labuan.
Hajiji, who chaired the GRS supreme council meeting here on Thursday (June 18), said although the current Parliament term only ends in December 2027, the coalition wanted to prepare early.
"To face this general election, we are strengthening our party machinery in all parliamentary constituencies in Sabah.
"The chairman of each zone will carry out carry out inspections and obtain reports on the readiness of divisions according to their respective zones," he said.
Hajiji said he would head Zone 1 (Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud and Tuaran), while Zone 2 (Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan), will be chaired by Gagasan Rakyat deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Zone 3 (Papar, Kimanis, Beaufort and Sipitang) will be chaired by Parti Cinta Sabah president Tan Sri Anifah Aman and Zone 4 (Ranau, Keningau, Pensiangan and Tenom) will be overseen by Parti Bersatu Sabah acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
Zone 5 (Sandakan, Batu Sapi, Libaran, Beluran and Kinabatangan) will be chaired by Liberal Democratic Party president Datuk Chin Su Phin and Zone 6 (Tawau, Kalabakan, Lahad Datu and Semporna) will be chaired by Harapan Rakyat president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah.
