Jakim urges action against Facebook user over allegedly seditious post

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been urged to take appropriate action against a Facebook user for a allegedly seditious post on social media.

Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee (pic) said they had lodged a report with the MCMC.

"The content contains elements of extremism, religious hatred and racism… which clearly goes against the principles of racial and religious harmony," he said in a statement on Monday (April 21).

He said the freedom of expression should not be abused because such actions not only trigger the sensitivities of Muslims but also have the potential to disrupt public order and threaten national unity.

Sirajuddin called on the public not to emotionally to any form of provocation and to leave the matter to authorities. – Bernama
