IPOH: Due process will take its course regarding a civil suit filed by the family of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen over her death in a school stabbing incident last year, says Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M. Kulasegaran.
Speaking at the Madani Kita Programme on Sunday (Oct 4), Kulasegaran declined to elaborate on the suit, stating it involves the Education Ministry and he lacks full details.
"The police will carry out the necessary investigations, and the normal legal process will take place," he said.

The suit was filed on Oct 1 by Yap’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, and sister against several parties, including government agencies, the teenage boy accused of the killing, and his parents.
Addressing broader concerns around youth mental health, Kulasegaran noted that while the government is not drafting new legislation, it is holding discussions with relevant agencies and NGOs. He emphasised the importance of parental guidance programs to help families better understand their children's mental health needs.
