Two homes razed, couple injured in Keningau fire

Nothing left: Two houses fully engulfed in flames in Kampung Tudan Baru, Keningau.

KOTA KINABALU: A married couple suffered injuries after a fire destroyed two homes in Kampung Tudan Baru, Keningau.

The 43-year-old man sustained burns to his left hand, while his 42-year-old wife suffered burns to her forehead.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Asst Senior Fire Officer Severinus Sainkui, said a team of 12 personnel, led by operations commander Norhasrita Manan, was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.37pm on Friday.

“The team arrived at the scene, some 7km away, and found the two houses engulfed in flames,” he said yesterday.

Sainkui added that the team immediately began extinguishing the fire using two hoses with three water jets from the fire engine.

He said the injured couple was sent to hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services for further treatment.

“We concluded the operation at 9.42pm once we fully extinguished the fire and identified no further danger.”

The cause of the fire and the estimated damage are being investigated.
