Husband and wife injured in Sabah fire

Fire destroyed two houses in Kampung Tudan Baru, injuring a couple.

KOTA KINABALU: A husband and wife suffered burns in a fire that destroyed two homes in Kampung Tudan Baru, Keningau, on Friday evening.

The 43-year-old man sustained burns to his left hand, while his 42-year-old wife suffered burns to her forehead.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Station chief, Asst Sr Fire Officer Severinus Sainkui, said a team of 12 personnel, led by Operations commander Norhasrita Manan, was dispatched after receiving the emergency call at 7.37pm.

“The team arrived at the scene, some seven kilometres away, at 8.05pm, and found the two houses completely engulfed in flames,” he said in a statement on Saturday (April 19).

Sainkui added that the team immediately began extinguishing the fire using two hoses with three water jets from the fire engine’s supply.

The owners of the first house, the injured couple, were rushed to the hospital via the Emergency Medical Rescue Service for treatment.

“Once the fire was fully extinguished and no further danger was identified, the operation was concluded at 9.42pm,” he said.

The cause of the fire and the estimated damage are still under investigation.
