Local man denies insulting the King online

JOHOR BARU: A local man has denied making a social media post insulting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, which has gone viral.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the man lodged a police report at around 8.34am on Thursday (April 17).

The man stated in his report that he had no connection to a Facebook account that published a derogatory statement in Chinese using his name and photo.

"The complainant, a 40-year-old man, firmly denied ownership of the Facebook account bearing the name Cayson Goh. He believes that someone misused his identity and profile picture without his consent," ACP Balveer said on Thursday night.

The post, written in Chinese, allegedly referred to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in demeaning terms and contained racially provocative language.

ACP Balveer stated that the police are investigating the case under Section 416 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"We urge the public to always respect the law, safeguard social harmony, and remain sensitive towards matters concerning race, religion, and the royal institution," he added.

ACP Balveer encouraged anyone with relevant information about the case to contact the Johor Baru North police district headquarters hotline at 07-556 3122.
