China's willingness to share technology will benefit M'sia, says Tok Mat

TAPAH: China's willingness to share its advanced technology will greatly benefit Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Foreign Minister said China President Xi Jinping's openness to share this technology, in rare earth processing, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and artificial intelligence, would open up a lot of opportunities.

He said China had previously been protective over some technologies.

"They have previously closely kept their technologies and not shared these with anyone but they are now open to Malaysia.

"We want the best technology, which is from China, especially for our rare earth industry," he said in a press conference during his visit to the Batu Tiga district polling station here on Thursday (April 17).

"If we sell raw and unprocessed non-radioactive rare earth elements (NR-REE) the price is not high, compared to processed ones, which can worth 10 to 15 times more," he added.

Xi was in Malaysia for a three-day visit and left for Cambodia on Thursday.

Mohamad said Malaysia and Asean countries need to work closely with China to have more opportunities to strengthen their economies through technology sharing, market expansion and sustainable trade partnerships.

"Due to the current geopolitics, geoeconomy, tariffs and other issues, it is better to have trade between ourselves.

"This would then increase our trade with China and other countries," he added.
