Cop killed in road accident in Tapah

IPOH: A rank-and-file policeman was killed after crashing his motorcycle into a lorry at KM67 of the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur federal route in Tapah.

Tapah OCPD Superintendent Johari Yahya said the 42-year-old victim, a police sergeant, was unable to brake in time and slammed into the lorry that had suddenly exited a junction near Rumah Awam 3 public housing scheme at about 10:15am on Wednesday (April 16).

"The victim was on his way to the town centre before the incident.

"He suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Tapah Hospital," said Supt Johari in a statement.

"The 26-year-old lorry driver has been arrested and will be presented to the court to obtain a remand order," he added.

Supt Johari said the matter would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

"Those with information about the accident are to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Zulhafiz Zainuddin at 017-400 6662.

"We urge road users to be more careful and to be considerate while on the road," he said.

"Motorists should get proper rest to prevent any untoward incidents," he added.
