Bukit Aman in final stages of investigation into Teoh Beng Hock case

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is in the final stages of reinvestigating the death of Teoh Beng Hock, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director said the police are currently putting the finishing touches on the investigation paper following the order from Kuala Lumpur High Court for the case to be reopened and a thorough reinvestigation to be conducted.

"The investigation is limited in terms of resources as it was 15 years ago. We are unable to reinterview some witnesses, while others refused to come forward.

"We also called up (Teoh's) family members, but they did not give good cooperation," he said.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the 3D rendering of the crime scene in Shah Alam in February also failed to give much assistance to the case.

"The reason being that the rendering could not give us a picture of what occurred as due to lack of input from witnesses.

"The only thing that assisted us is the physical aspect of the investigation, such as the angle of the drop," he said.

It was reported on Feb 4 that a firefighter with the same body build as Teoh was used to emulate different possible scenarios that led to his death.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily had said that several possible situations were tested to see the possibility of it happening during the time of death.

“This includes if he fell on his own or if he was forced to jump. We wanted to see if it was possible or not from that window.

“The test was to confirm if it could happen in different situations,” he said.

He said that the current scene was now a storeroom for a furniture shop.

“We used equipment that we did not have 15 years ago, and forensics has tried to reconstruct the crime scene in 3D. You have to give us time for the renders to be completed, perhaps in a week or two,” he said.

A drone was also used to capture the surrounding area.
