Witnesses sought in assault case

SEREMBAN: The family of a woman who was allegedly punched by a man following a minor traffic incident near here on March 29 are appealing to witnesses to come forward to testify in court.

The woman’s brother, who wished to be known only as Umar, 33, said this is important to the case.

“Although we already have video evidence of the incident and a willing witness, we need other eyewitnesses,” he said, adding that he also made the appeal on social media.

Umar said the family intends to pursue a civil suit against Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar, 35, a soldier who denied charges of assault on April 8, and two days later, to damaging the woman’s car.

The courts will hear the case in May.

The incident occurred when the woman, who was driving a car, failed to avoid the man’s wife, 34, and their seven-year-old daughter, who suddenly crossed the road, resulting in minor injuries to both.

A 22-second video of the incident had since gone viral.
