Driver, 75, who drove in motorcycle lane identified, police say

GEORGE TOWN: The driver of a silver compact car seen using the motorcycle lane on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge has been identified as a 75-year-old man.

South Seberang Perai OCPD Supt Jay January Siowou said the incident occurred at 3.30pm on Tuesday (April 8).

“We managed to track down the driver, who is a 75-year-old local.

“Investigations revealed that the man was travelling from Butterworth to Batu Kawan but mistakenly entered the motorcycle lane. "

"He only realised the mistake after other vehicles honked at him and continued on his journey.”

“A summons has been issued for disobeying traffic signs,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.

This was not the first time such an incident has taken place, as several previous cases of cars mistakenly entering the motorcycle lanes on the bridge have been reported.
